President Donald Trump ordered flags to be flown at half-staff nationwide to honor Senator Lindsey Graham who has passed away at the age of 71.
Flags will remain at half-staff until July 18, 2026 at 6pm.
“In honor of the remarkable life and achievements of Senator Lindsey Graham, a dear friend of mine, and a truly great man, who achieved so much for our Country, and his beloved Home State of South Carolina, I am ordering all American Flags throughout the United States lowered to Half Mast until Saturday evening at 6 P.M.,” said President Trump in a statement posted to Truth Social Sunday. “GOD BLESS YOU LINDSEY!”
Maine’s Gov. Janet Mills (D) issued a press release Sunday confirming that she would be following the president’s directive.
“On behalf of the State of Maine, I extend our condolences to the people of South Carolina,” Gov. Mills said.
Sen. Graham’s office shared a statement following his death asking for prayers and privacy for his family.
“On the evening of Saturday, July 11, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham passed away from a brief and sudden illness,” the statement said. “Senator Graham’s family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period.”
Preliminary findings from the Washington, DC, medical examiner revealed Graham’s cause of death as an aortic dissection.
