Woman Found Dead in Otis Pond

The Hancock Sheriff’s Department identified a Tremont woman after she was found dead in Beech Hill Pond in Otis on Sunday.

At approximately 4:21 p.m., the department received a call reporting an unresponsive woman in the pond off Salisbury Cove Road.

Prior to emergency services’ arrival, bystanders pulled the woman out of the water and initiated CPR.

Hancock deputies responded along with the Maine Warden Service, the Otis/Mariaville Fire Department, and Northern Light Ambulance.

First responders continued the life-saving efforts started by bystanders but were ultimately unable to revive the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was identified as Deborah Wedge, 67, of Tremont.

Based on the preliminary investigation, law enforcement believes Wedge suffered a medical event while in the pond.

There is no indication of suspicious circumstances.
