Senator Jake Garn is a United States Senator from the state of Utah. He was elected Secretary of the Republican Conference in the Senate and is the third-ranking minority member of the Senate. He has also served as a Congressional Advisor to the SALT II negotiations in Geneva, Switzerland. Senator Garn is the ranking Republican on the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. He also serves on the Housing and Urban Affairs Subcommittee as Ranking Minority member, and on the Financial Institutions and Rural Housing subcommittees. He was appointed to the Senate Committee on Appropriations at the beginning of the 96th Congress, and serves on five subcommittees: Defense, Public Works, Agriculture and Related Agencies, Foreign Operations (Ranking Minority member), and State, Justice, Commerce and the Judiciary. He is also on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and is Vice-Chairman of the Subcommittee on Intelligence and Rights of Americans. He is further a member of the Charters and Guidelines Subcommittee.
