Barbara Keating-Edh is the founder and president of Consumer Alert, a non-profit membership organization which describes itself as “a new voice to help protect your interests as private individuals, as citizens, and as consumers from excesses of both business and government.” Prior to the founding of Consumer Alert in 1977, Mrs. Keating-Edh was a Conservative Party candidate for the U.S. Senate in New York in 1974. After her senatorial defeat she became a special assistant to Senator James Buckley and later a member of his re-election staff. She is the mother of five children whom she raised by herself after the Vietnam War death of her first husband Major Daniel Keating, USMC.
