A woman was killed on Tuesday when she was struck by an Amtrak train in Brunswick.

At approximately 3:12 p.m., the Brunswick Police and Brunswick Fire/EMS departments responded to the railroad tracks near the end of Bibber Parkway following reports that a pedestrian had been struck.

Emergency personnel arrived quickly to discover a woman dead on the tracks.

The investigation revealed that she had been struck by Amtrak’s Downeaster as it approached the Brunswick Station.

The train was stopped on the tracks with 18 passengers still on board when police arrived.

Police noted that the portion of the tracks where the crash occurred is not near any sidewalks or railroad crossings.

The investigation revealed that the woman had parked her car in a nearby lot and walked toward the area where she was struck.

Police do not consider the incident suspicious.

The tracks were closed for approximately two hours, and the incident remains under investigation by the Brunswick and Amtrak Police.

The incident came just weeks after a similar fatal train crash in Old Orchard Beach.
