Motorcyclist Killed in Head-On Crash on Route 1 in Hancock

A Sullivan man was killed Friday morning after the motorcycle he was operating crossed the centerline on Route 1 and collided head-on with a pickup truck, according to the Maine State Police.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:25 a.m. on Friday, July 3, near the Washington Junction in Hancock.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a motorcycle traveling westbound crossed into the eastbound lane, where it struck an oncoming pickup truck head-on.

The motorcycle operator, identified as 44-year-old Jim Hoyt of Sullivan, was pronounced dead at the scene. State police said Hoyt was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries.

Route 1 was closed for several hours while Maine State Police Troopers investigated the crash and emergency crews worked to clear the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
