Question of the Week 9

by | Sep 23, 2022 | Journalism, Question of the Day, Question Of the Week

Last week’s Question and Answer:

Recently, the audio of a 2006 campaign robocall was “discovered”, during which the voice of an aspiring politician says: “I’m pro-life, I opposed amnesty for illegal immigrants, I support traditional marriage, and I have never supported a new tax or big spending program. I support a constitutional amendment to protect traditional marriage, and I oppose adoption by gay couples, and I work to ensure the right to display the Ten Commandments in public places.”

Who, back in 2006, made this incredibly insensitive and racist pitch to the voters?

The Answer is flip flopper Charlie Crist who, today, is running for Governor of Florida.

A. Republican Mitt Romney (wrong but it sounds like old Mitt, doesn’t it!)

B. Democrat John Kerry

C. Republican John McCain

D. Democrat Charlie Christ (in the latest polls, Crist is trailing Gov. DeSantis by ~7 points)

E. Democrat Hillary Clinton

This week’s question:

Portland, Maine seems to be following after its west coast namesake (Portland, Oregon). What was once a great little city, now features over 1,700 homeless people living in hotels, increasing crime (including Somali gangs), lots of illegal drugs, a diminished police force (25 vacant positions), and unaffordable everything (median home price is ~$500,000). Which political party controls Portland, Maine?

A. Republican Party

B. Green Party

C. Democratic Party

D. DSA (Democratic Socialists of America)

E. Tea Party

F. No Party in Portland anymore. It is too dangerous to be on the street after dark.

Why the CIA No Longer Works—and How to Fix It

The following is adapted from a talk delivered at Hillsdale College on October 3, 2023, during a conference on “U.S. Intelligence: History and Controversies.” We need the CIA, but we also need to recognize the uncomfortable reality that the CIA is not performing at the level we require. It is not keeping us safe. It

The following is adapted from a talk delivered on September 12, 2023, at the Allan P.
