An Amtrak passenger train en route from Brunswick, Maine, to Boston struck a trespasser on the tracks Monday morning, according to breaking reports from The Maine Wire.
Train 680 came to a stop in West Medford after the incident. The event has also caused delays on MBTA commuter rail services in the greater Boston area.
Authorities confirmed a coroner is on scene as officials respond. The crew reported the strike to dispatch, and the train remains halted while the situation is addressed.
Amtrak offered to relieve the crew with a replacement team from Maine. The onboard crew declined and chose to stay with the train and its passengers as it prepares to resume service to Boston North Station once cleared.
Amtrak and MBTA passengers are urged to check official apps and websites for real-time updates on delays and service changes.
