A tragic crash on Friday left a 53-year-old Saco man dead after he allegedly struck another vehicle head-on while passing.

At approximately 6:51 a.m., the Saco police received reports of a crash in the area of 838 Portland Road in Saco.

The Saco Police and Fire Department arrived on the scene. A preliminary investigation revealed that a gray Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Michael Petersen, 52, of Saco, was traveling northbound on Portland Road at the time of the crash.

Petersen allegedly attempted to pass a tractor-trailer turning right into a local business when he crossed the double yellow line and hit a red Chevy Equinox head-on.

Petersen was transported to the Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was pronounced dead.

His family has been notified of the tragedy.

The operator of the Chevy was identified as Mickie Cyr, 53, of Saco. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Maine Medical Center for treatment.

Portland Road was closed for several hours as police secured the area, and the specifics of the incident remain under investigation.
