Not sure if this has been reported elsewhere (strangely), but the story is at least two weeks old now. It seems important, and more than a little unseemly, to see that the very recent Brewer mayor and current Maine Dems chair is now a paid flak for a big-deal Portland law firm.
And, of course, nobody, but nobody, dares to report on the fact she took a junket, specifically traveling as the Maine Dems chair with other state Dems chairs, to Taiwan last year (pics attached), within just a few miles of mainland China. For some weirdly inexplicable reason, the entirety of Maine's media (literally every Maine outlet, without exception) found that to be not newsworthy in the slightest. Wonder why? - Mike
Pierce Atwood adds to its government relations and lobbying practice group

Portland law firm Pierce Atwood has hired Beverly Uhlenhake as a government affairs consultant within its government relations and lobbying practice group.
Uhlenhake has longstanding ties to Maine's political, business and civic communities. She is chair of the Maine Democratic Party and a former mayor of Brewer, and has advocated for development policies involving rural and urban parts of the state.
"I firmly believe that advocating for good public policy is honorable work," Uhlenhake told Mainebiz. "It is impossible for our legislators to know everything about each of the issues that come before them, and lobbyists, particularly in Maine where we have relatively short term limits, can serve as both educator and advocate for the issues at hand.
"If I can assist legislators to understand the complexities of the issues and to find a way to get to a better answer, I'll have done my job."
Prior to joining Pierce Atwood, Uhlenhake worked in commercial real estate brokerage, development and consulting. She is also a member of the board of the Maine Real Estate & Development Association.

Uhlenhake received her master's degree in professional studies in education and higher education administration from Iowa State University and her bachelor's degree in German from Ohio State University.
She has held leadership roles with the Rotary Club of Bangor, the Northeast Workforce Development Board and the Downtown Bangor Partnership. At the University of Maine, Bev served as a faculty member in residence for the National Education for Women Leadership Program through the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center. She also was a mentor for the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders.
"I'm incredibly happy to be putting my passion for public policy to work," Uhlenhake said. "My interest in government policy started when I was just a kid sitting around the dinner table and talking about current events with my family. I learned pretty quickly as I watched the people around me volunteer for the things they cared about that being part of a community meant being a positive, active participant. My new role is just another facet of that."
Pierce Atwood LLP is ranked No. 3 among the state's largest law firms, according to the 2024 Mainebiz Book of Lists. The firm has 134 attorneys working in Maine. In addition to Portland, there are offices in Augusta, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Washington, D.C.
