The Maine Secretary of State’s Office has announced the results of the Senate District 30 recount, impacting residents of Gorham and parts of Scarborough.

A recount was requested by Rep. Ellie Sato of Gorham after Rep. Sophia Warren of Scarborough won the Democratic primary by a margin of just 29 votes.

Senate District 30 is currently represented by Sen. Stacy Brenner who did not seek reelection this year.

After the recount, Rep. Warren was still found to be the winner, this time by a margin of 31 votes.

The final vote tallies were 3,838 for Warren and 3,807 for Rep. Sato.

Thursday, recounts will be held for both the House District 49 Republican primary and House District 135 Democratic primary.

In ranked choice elections, only candidates who emerge in the top three at the end of the next-to-last round of tabulation are eligible to request a recount, unlike non-ranked choice elections where any unsuccessful candidate may do so.

In November, voters will be asked to choose between Democratic candidate Warren and Harry White, a Republican who ran unopposed in the June primary.
