Thrice-Censured Leftist Bangor City Councilor Throws Anti-ICE Tantrum During Meeting

Thrice-censured radical left-wing Bangor City Councilor Joseph Leonard went on an anti-ICE tirade during Monday’s council meeting before an ordinance aimed at limiting city cooperation with immigration enforcement failed.

“This is a criminal organization, but I don’t expect our rapist pedophile facist president to take any consideration of this whatsoever, so I would proudly vote in favor of this ordinance,” said Leonard.

Throughout the rant, he referred to ICE as a “criminal organization” and detention centers as “concentration camps.” He also claimed that detained minors are getting pregnant.

“Little girls who came into these ICE concentration camps not pregnant are now pregnant,” he said.

Leonard has a long history of outbursts at council meetings, including throwing a pen and making an obscene gesture at a commenter during a meeting, and has been censured for his behavior three times.

The city council has been working on its proposed anti-ICE ordinance for months, though it has never successfully passed.

Residents were able to voice their opinions on the ordinance that would limit how much city employees could cooperate with federal law enforcement without judicial warrants or court orders.

People spoke on both sides, with opponents raising concerns that the ordinance would jeopardize the city’s federal funding.

“This does nothing except create extreme liability for the taxpayer and the city,” said one Bangor resident.

After the council voted unanimously to amend the ordinance, Councilor Carolyn Fish made a motion to indefinitely postpone it, but the motion failed 4-5.

Councilor Fish then left the room during Leonard’s rant and did not return for the rest of the meeting or participate in the rest of that day’s votes.

With Fish gone, the council voted on enacting the ordinance, but it nevertheless failed 3-5.
