Hope and Leadership: Can a Debate Define America’s Presidential Future?
Are Americans more likely to experience “hope and joy” under a highly visible, forthright leader – or a figurehead programmed by an unseen body of anonymous backroom handlers? What you see is usually what you get, and what we’re seeing so far is a poorly articulated jumble of contradictions from a barely visible and tentatively audible candidate for the presidency. Will a single forthcoming televised debate serve to clarify this dichotomy for a hopeful public?
Reticence and timidity are not desirable leadership attributes, but self-confidence and communication skills are essential.Major decision-makers as to government policy and practice in a democratic republic can never expect unanimous press or popular acclaim.Detractors are an essential element of political life.
It’s unfortunate that the near-term fate of our nation may rest on one long-overdue debate with less than 60 days to go in a championship game. Will the result be determined by the candidates’ responsive messaging or the moderating referee’s direction and depth of inquiry?Don’t miss it!
