Outdated Voter Rolls Threaten Legitimacy of Upcoming National Election
Growing revelations of seriously outdated voter registration rolls in states like Ohio and Texas expose what probably is the greatest risk to legitimacy of the forthcoming national election. All our political parties should at least be able to agree that the concept of democracy in any form is subverted by inaccurate eligibility records.
With all the available electronic means of timely transmission and extensive data storage at our disposal, Congress should be interested in budgeting one-time funds to correct this embarrassing domestic shortcoming. It shouldn’t be that difficult to link mortuary death records, residence changes, citizenship recognition, medical incapacity and prison sentences with community voter rolls by required internet reporting within 30-60 days. It’s becoming clear that a meaningful component of our voting-age population is not accurately recognized on a timely basis.
