Navigating Unrest and Indebtedness: Challenges of Uncontrolled Immigration in Democracies

by Phil Osifer | Jul 3, 2024

Is it possible for a government to survive after inflicting widespread punishment from open-border immigration on its established democratic citizenry? Can the social, economic, and emotional costs of uncontrolled invasion and dispersion of foreign persons with unknown intent somehow be reconciled with already excessive public unrest and record indebtedness? Does this dereliction of government responsibility relegate the status of the world’s leading democracy to just another country lacking in meaningful distinction? Must we rely on the threat of nuclear capability for ultimate survival in the competitive world economy? How about replacing the seductive but degrading notion of “diversity, equity, and inclusion” with “dedication, fairness, and initiative?” Can patriotic spirit of commitment be restored by reducing government dependency? Can available financial and natural resources be allocated more productively? Should we be as much concerned about saddling future generations with excessive debt obligations as with the arrogant hope of single handedly affecting global climate change? Are we all indulging in some kind of hallucinatory, feel good substance? I hope the nation can sober up prior to Election Day. Phil Osifer
