Government is Failing Us

by Phil Osifer | Mar 10, 2024

Are domestic women’s rights advocates spending undue time on resolvable issues of legalized abortion and transgender athletic competition at the expense of more troublesome worldwide injustices? We read of widespread rape and child abuse among undocumented immigrants entering our country, as a spreading element of domestic criminality, as sideline combatant entertainment in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and even among our supposedly socially enlightened high school and college students. Where are the vocal crusaders for fundamental human decency and respect? Must we attend a religious service to hear what spiritual leaders have to say on this subject? Are they afraid to speak or write publicly for fear of intruding on colleagues of different denominations? If traditional religious standards of civil behavior are in serious conflict, to whom should we turn for constructive guidance? Our government – the Congress in particular – is failing the citizenry on basic humanistic conduct in deference to party fealty to lesser matters, like in fanciful nuances in stipulated pronoun identification. There were a few “sissies” and “tomboys” in my youth, but all grew up to have ‘x’ or ‘xy’ chromosomes. In today’s world, I continue to “call ‘em as I see ‘em.” Phil Osifer
