THE BIG BUSINESS OF ABORTION

by | Mar 1, 2024 | Commentary

I am the mother of two grown sons. I still remember well how excited I was to become pregnant the first time. It had been a long journey of eight years to come to this point. This had always been something I had wanted, and the feeling was exhilarating! As a Christian I believe in the sanctity of life and the spirit of love. I can still remember the first time I felt my babies move inside me, but even more than that, I felt their presence with me from the very beginning. I never felt alone. I was lucky to have a family who shared my happiness and supported my health. My children went on to grow and prosper into wonderful men who have served their country, one still does, and contribute to our country and world in so many ways. Every day I am grateful for having my sons in my life!
Sadly, not everyone is as lucky or exuberant about having children as I was. They have a very different story to tell about giving life to another human being. Some are molested, some are raped. Others are too young or too altered by drug addiction. Many don’t have any support system at all. These are the girls and women who seek out abortions for the most part. There are some who may have health issues, which is heart rendering. And there are those who simply don’t want to be inconvenienced. All have their story to tell, and they should be listened to. All of them should be offered options that don’t take the unborn child’s life away. One of the best options is giving the child up for adoption. I know when I wasn’t sure if I could have children, it was something I was hoping to do.
Some of the reasons for a woman to have an abortion are that they have a health issue that would make it dangerous to carry and/or have a baby, no support system, a job that they might lose, no healthcare or economic issues. Some reasons to not have an abortion might be that the father has rights to his child’s life, fearing the procedure or their Christian values. It might be noted that “Roe” (Norma McCarvey) became a Catholic and vocally opposed abortions in the mid-nineties. Roe v Wade was overturned in 2022, but the push goes on for abortions.
Unfortunately, the abortion “business” has become very lucrative. In 20-21, Planned Parenthood performed nearly 384K abortions, while receiving nearly $2T from the government. This “Big Business” has no concerns with the long-lasting, life changing aspects of this procedure. To name a few: Women who have abortions are 3 times as likely to commit suicide, they are 81% more likely to have mental health issues, they are 45% more likely to have suicidal thoughts, there is a 110% increase in alcohol abuse. These and other effects, too many to mention, can last for a lifetime.
In the end, it could be observed that abortion does not respect women. It has become a multi-million-dollar industry of clinical dystopia with no regard for any of the people involved. Whether it be the mother, the father, or the unborn child. It’s the money that pushes the process with no “rights” really considered. It will be a challenge. The abortion industry is well-funded, politically powerful, and will not surrender its market willingly. But, well worth the fight!
