Routine Bail Check in Baldwin Leads to Hours-Long Standoff with Career Criminal

by Seamus Othot | Apr 25, 2025

Cumberland County Sheriff’s detectives faced an unexpected, hours-long standoff with a career criminal after arriving at a Baldwin home to conduct a routine bail check.

Detectives arrived at the residence on Sand Pond Road in Baldwin, only to discover Jermaine Faulk in the building’s backyard, allegedly violating the bail conditions from a March arrest.

Faulk’s March arrest for felony aggravated domestic violence assault led to bail conditions that prevented him from being at the Sandy Pond Road address or near the victim, who lived at the Baldwin home.

Faulk rushed inside the house despite the detectives’ demands that he stop. The detectives tried to communicate with him for over an hour before the Cumberland County Emergency Services Unit and Crisis Negotiation Team arrived.

During the standoff, the sheriff’s department obtained a search warrant for the house and an arrest warrant for Faulk.

Law enforcement secured the perimeter around the residence and negotiated with Faulk for several hours before he eventually surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.

He now faces charges for violating the conditions of his release and refusing to submit to arrest, causing a standoff.

Law enforcement clarified that although the alleged victim of the previous domestic violence was present in the house, she was not harmed during the standoff.

Faulk has a history of criminal activity going back years. In 2016, Faulk, then a resident of Yonkers, New York, was arrested at a South Portland hotel when authorities discovered substantial quantities of heroin and crack cocaine, and charged him with drug trafficking.

At that time, Faulk already had convictions for various drug and weapons charges.
