Janet Mills and Hannah Pingree Own the Office of New Americans Scandal-Ridden Early Failure

by John Andrews | Apr 3, 2025

Maine’s Office of New Americans is a state sanctioned cabal of non-governmental organization gate keepers and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion radicals. The Office was created under Hannah Pingree by order of Governor Janet Mills. Gov. Mills appointed its first Director, Tarlan Ahmadov, an Azeri nationalist who had all the trappings of an unregistered foreign agent. That is until yesterday, when Ahmadov was forced to resign. He cited ‘health reasons’, but it’s the sickness of the current regime under Governor Janet Mills that is the real story.

The ONA (Office of New Americans) was a created through an Executive Order decreed by Gov. Mills in fiscal year 23/24. Mills did this largely on behalf of left-wing organizations like the Office of New Americans State Network, World Education Services
and the American Immigration Council.

Hannah Pingree, the Director of Mills Office of Policy, Innovation and the Future (GOPIF), tried and failed to implement the ONA through a bill, LD 2167. LD 2167 was a piece of legislation from the Governor herself and submitted on her behalf by Representative Deqa Dhalac (D-Portland). The bill had a heated public hearing and then it disappeared. It re-appeared unannounced at the last minute in the state budget. It was passed without a debate or floor vote like every other bill usually receives. It was the Governor’s bill from her Executive Order after all.

Maine has become a kingdom built upon far left-of-center politics and out-of-state money. Queen Janet and her court of loyalists beat the peasants into submission by wielding national radical leftist policies like a baseball bat. There is no compromise, only compliance. The politically connected who swear obedience to her are granted titles and fiefdoms within her government. They are expected to follow orders without question. The fiefdom in question here is GOPIF and is run by the scion of wealth and Democrat privilege, Hannah Pingree. Pingree is a left-wing member of the landed gentry, if ever there was one. As monarchies go, Hannah Pingree may be next in line for the throne behind the desk in the Governor’s office.

Janet Mill’s father was a U.S. Attorney for Maine, and her family has long been connected to state politics. Hannah Pingree’s mother is US Representative Chellie Pingree (Maine-1stCD) who was elected to Congress in 2008. Herself a state legislator, Hannah was selected to be Maine’s Speaker of the House that same year. These are the people who run the state, and they are not to be questioned. The origin story of the ONA shows that that Mills and Pingree do not care what the Maine people want. They believe that they are the royalty of the state and as such only their priorities, given to them by national groups, matter.

Speaking of national politics, Governor Mills has had the national spotlight shine upon her because of her willful defiance of an executive order from President Donald Trump. That EO was to keep men out of women’s sports. It’s an idea that is common sense almost everywhere else. In Maine, it is considered blasphemy by the Planned Parenthood-funded Democrats who currently run the Maine state government on behalf of Janet Mills. Governor Mills is allowed to defy the Trump Executive Order, but Maine must bend the knee to her Executive Order to create the Office of New Americans. With apologies to Mel Brooks, “It’s good to be the King.”

The hypocrisy of Governor Mills is obvious. What is more nuanced is that with Mills, Pingree and legislative leaders; orthodoxy to ideology is what governs government action. Public outrage and legislative obstacles do not matter to the party in power. They are a roadblock to be run over. The agenda must be advanced as the left marches towards their Progressive utopia. They don’t care how many Mainers get trampled along the way.

Gov. Janet Mills owns ramming through the ONA into her Governor’s Office without a vote of the people of Maine. She owns the scandals that forced Ahmadov’s early resignation because she appointed him. At least when Hannah Pingree likely enters the 2026 Governor’s race, she can say, “I was just following orders” with regard to Maine’s Office of New Americans going off the rails so shortly after it left the station.
