Ryan McLaughlin, a sports reporter with The Ellsworth American, deleted his X account on Thursday following intense backlash after he posted a statement telling female athletes that they should simply train harder to win against transgender-identifying males.
“There’s a concept in running… if you want to win, I don’t know, train harder? Do more speedwork? Trashing LGBTQ teenagers won’t win you races. Training FAST will,” said McLaughlin.
McLaughlin deleted the original post along with his entire account after the prominent Libs of TikTok account, run by Chaya Raichik and dedicated to exposing radical leftists online, responded to his post.
“Sports editor at ‘The Ellsworth American’ blames girls for losing when they’re forced to compete against males— says girls just need to ‘train harder,’” she said.
Although he deleted his account and the backlash on his post cannot be viewed, the response to Raichik’s post could indicate what he was facing.
“Who knew that ‘feminism’ would be responsible for most misogyny in modern times? Really, nobody could’ve predicted that,” said one account.
“This complete buffoon is ignorant of biology. When very poor male athletes are smashing female records, how can you not view this as tragically unfair? This guy needs to be removed from post,” said another.
McLaughlin’s original post came in response to a video showing a transgender-identifying male in Oregon dominating a race against actual girls, setting a new record and running drastically faster than any of his female opponents.
The Ellsworth American has published multiple sports articles by McLaughlin since his controversial statement, suggesting that his statement has had no negative impact on his work at the weekly newspaper.
