Trump Administration Repurposes Biden’s ‘CBP One’ Phone App to Encourage Illegal Aliens to Self-Deport

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced that they will be repurposing the Biden administration’s “CBP One” phone application, which was used to facilitate the entry of migrants into the U.S. along the southern border, into a portal that illegal aliens can use to report that they will be self-deporting from the country.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) under the Biden administration used the CBP One app to allow migrants in Mexico to submit advance information and schedule appointments at eight southwest border ports of entry, ostensibly to mitigate the dangers associated with illegal entry and human smugglers.

Those migrants were then typically processed and paroled into the U.S. with pending asylum claims. By December 2024, CBP reported that over 936,500 migrants had used the app to schedule appointments at points of entry since January 2023.

On Monday, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced that all CBP One applications would be automatically updating to the new “CBP Home” app.

The new application includes a “self-deportation reporting feature” through which illegal aliens in the U.S. can use to submit their intent to depart from the country. Doing so could benefit future immigration applications, DHS said.

“The Biden Administration exploited the CBP One app to allow more than 1 million aliens to illegally enter the United States. With the launching of the CBP Home app, we are restoring integrity to our immigration system,” said Secretary Noem on Monday.

“The CBP Home app gives aliens the option to leave now and self-deport, so they may still have the opportunity to return legally in the future and live the American dream. If they don’t, we will find them, we will deport them, and they will never return,” Noem said.

The new CBP Home app comes as a part of the $200 million domestic and international “Stay Out and Leave Now” public information campaign launched by the DHS under President Donald Trump.
