Rockland Police on Monday announced the arrest of an 18-year-old accused of stealing $40,000 from a vehicle in February while out on bail conditions from prior criminal charges.

Police say that Zachary Gilbert, 18, of Rockland, was arrested on Friday, March 7, and was charges with felony theft and violation of conditions of release.

According to police, at the time of his arrest, Gilbert was on five sets of conditions of release from prior criminal charges.

The arrest comes weeks after police began their investigation into the theft of approximately $40,000 from a vehicle in Rockland.

Police said they believed the victim was targeted due to the large amount of unsecured money in the vehicle.

During the course of their investigation, Rockland Police detectives executed search warrants on residences and hotels in Thomaston, Warren and Owls head.

In addition to Gilbert, police say they have charged one juvenile with felony theft and currently have charges pending or warrants for four more juvenile suspects.
