Disappointed Democrats: Why the Reflexive Negativity to Successors’ Policies?

by Phil Osifer | Mar 10, 2025

Why do disappointed Democrats continue to demean themselves by reflexively reacting negatively and obstreporously to any policy initiative taken by their successors? They refuse to take the easy path to immediate respectability by failing to support several demonstrably popular initiatives addressed by the new administration that invite coordination. Illegal immigration, economic prosperity, spreading criminality, drug addiction, and fiscal management issues should head the legislators’ joint attention list with little or no reason for serious dispute. “The party of ‘no’” is not a winning label in any legitimate democracy. All of its established spokespersons present dour appearances and seem triggered for instant attack mode. Our form of governance is not intended to be a constantly combative sporting event with a winning and losing side, but an exercise in satisfying the majority fan base transcending both teams. What kind of message did Tuesday’s televised ‘demonstration’ send to audiences at home and abroad? Would any reputable advertising and public relations consultants endorse such marketing tactics in a commercial context? Foreigners in particular need reassurance that the United States is acting in a responsible manner to advance the causes of peace and prosperity, not to display internal warfare over trivial matters like male participation in women’s athletic competitions.
