A middle school teacher from Claremont, New Hampshire, was arrested last week for stalking one of her students after she allegedly violated a restraining order just one hour after being served with it.
“She was served with the restraining order on Wednesday at the end of the school day, and within an hour, a police officer found her at the Claremont Community Center, and she was in contact with the student she was not allowed to have contact with,” said Claremont Police Chief Brent Wilmot, speaking to the NH Journal.
The student’s parents approached the local police to inform them about their concerns regarding the behavior of the teacher, Erin Mullen, 38, who was then served with a restraining order proscribing contact with the student.
Following the arrest, the Claremont School District’s superintendent issued a statement saying that he had fired Mullen and requested that her teaching license be revoked.
“This decision was made in response to the teacher violating a court order to stay away from a middle school student. In addition, I will be submitting the teacher’s name to the state to have the teaching license revoked for the state of New Hampshire,” he said.
Law enforcement was reluctant to provide details on the situation, leaving the reason for the restraining order mysterious and refusing to say whether the teacher was engaged in a sexual relationship with the student.
Chief Wilmot did say that an investigation had been ongoing into Mullen prior to the restraining order, and referred to the student involved as “he.”
