“Beginning Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 7 am, all staff will be required to wear a Northern Light Health issued masks in all areas,” Deborah M. Sanford, vice president of Nursing and Patient Services, said in a Monday email to employees.

“This change was made led by recommendations from our Infectious Disease team in response to the Maine CDC tracking upward trends of respiratory illness, including influenza and COVID across our state,” Sanford said.

Light A copy of the email was forwarded to the Maine Wire by a Northern Health employee.

According to publicly available data, Maine has had less than 325,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since Jan. 1, 2020 and just 3,085 deaths attributed to COVID-19 since the beginning of the year, the vast majority of those individuals being over the age of 65.

It’s not immediately clear from the email whether the mask mandate will apply to all health care workers in the Northern Light Health system or only select facilities.
