Biden Awards Presidential Citizen’s Medal to Liz Cheney after She Endorsed Kamala Harris and Headed Up January 6 Committee

President Joe Biden selected 20 Americans to receive the Presidential Citizens Medal on Wednesday, including former Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney, known for endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris and vice-chairing the January 6 Committee.

“Throughout two decades in public service, including as a Congresswoman for Wyoming and Vice Chair of the Committee on the January 6 attack, Liz Cheney has raised her voice—and reached across the aisle—to defend our Nation and the ideals we stand for: Freedom. Dignity. And decency,” said President Biden.

“Her integrity and intrepidness remind us all what is possible if we work together,” he added.

Cheney, a former U.S. Representative from Wyoming between 2017 and 2023, has long been considered a Republican in name only (RINO) and a representative of the “establishment” wing of the party, often disliked by more libertarian-leaning Republicans.

She has been a staunch opponent of President-elect Donald Trump and his more populist-leaning Make America Great Again (MAGA) agenda.

She even endorsed and campaigned with the far-left Vice President Harris.

Cheney is infamous for her staunch support for American interference across the globe in undeclared foreign wars, including unyielding support for Ukraine, despite the very real risk of nuclear conflict.

After the January 2021 riots at the U.S. Capitol, Cheney served as vice chair on the House committee investigating the incident.

A House GOP report published in December condemned the committee as a politicized failure.

“The failures, coverups and false accusations in the aftermath of January 6 have only increased the people’s distrust of Washington D.C.,” said Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.)

The same report even recommended a criminal investigation of Cheney for her alleged misconduct in her role on the January 6 committee.

The GOP presented allegations that Cheney behaved unethically by privately contacting Cassidy Hutchinson, a former Trump Administration assistant and a witness testifying against President Trump before the January 6 committee, without her lawyer’s knowledge.

After speaking with Cheney, Hutchinson began testifying against Trump, providing second- and third-hand accounts of incidents, including now-debunked accusations.

Despite the alleged misconduct, Biden selected her for the nation’s second-highest civilian award.

The Presidential Citizens Medal is second only to the prestigious Medal of Freedom.

Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), chair of the January 6 committee, will also receive a medal alongside Cheney.
