The Fulshear, Texas, police department arrested Venezuelan national Pedro Luis Parra Pulgar, 46, after he allegedly tried to murder his three children, including a three-year-old, last month by burning them alive in his house.
The Fulshear Police Department announced the incident via Facebook last week, over a month after it took place.
Emergency services responded to a fire at 31619 Eldorado Lane in a suburban community.
Police believe that Pulgar intentionally set the fire and attempted to murder his children.
Pulgar’s three children, two 15-year-olds and one three-year-old, were inside when the fire broke out.
The two teenagers were able to get out of the building by themselves, suffering only minor injuries.
The toddler remained inside until officers heard a faint sound coming from one of the bedrooms and entered through a window to discover the young child suffering from severe smoke inhalation.
They rescued the child, who was transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital for treatment, and was eventually released.
Pulgar also sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment before he was taken to the Fort Bend County Jail.
District Judge Argie Brame set his bail at $750,000 per each attempted murder charge, putting his total bail at $2,500,000.
Although law enforcement did not provide any information on Pulgar’s immigration status, he was issued an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer, suggesting that he may be in the U.S. illegally.
An ICE detainer is a request for local authorities to hold a criminal for additional time after their release from jail so that ICE can take them into custody.
Law enforcement provided scant details on the case, leaving multiple questions unanswered, such as Pulgar’s motive, the status of the children’s mother, and whether he intended to burn himself alive as well.
