A Damariscotta man will spend 18 years in federal prison for the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maine.

Trey Knof, 28, pleaded guilty to the charges in February.

Knof shared a link containing child sexual abuse material via an unspecified mobile app with an undercover FBI agent in August 2022.

FBI investigators uncovered images and videos depicting child sexual abuse, with victims as young as infants.

FBI agents executed a search warrant in May 2023, seized Knof’s phone, and discovered additional illicit material.

U.S. District Judge Nancy Torresen handed down the sentence, including a $20,250 fine and 10 years of supervised release following his 18 years in prison.

Knof was a previously registered sex offender.

His criminal record included convictions for gross sexual assault, sexual abuse of a minor, and possession and dissemination of sexually explicit material involving a child under 12.
