Can Traditional Party Labels Survive an Evolving Political Landscape in the 2024 Election?
Is there reason to expect traditional party registration labels to remain indicative of the likely 2024 Presidential election outcome? The philosophical composition of both sides appears in the throes of demographic change that may cause revised allegiance of various affinity groups in different states. With current polling indicating another narrow-margin outcome, late-stage campaign and debate exposure may well tip the scales.
Whatever the outcome, should we assume that it represents common-sense popular will? Are there credible principles and themes of governance that actually can unify disparate citizen groups too often distinguished by gender, age, race, ethnicity, education, vocation, income, wealth, health, location, religion, and various other alleged differences? Is it possible to replace negative rivalry with positive revelry under the Stars and Stripes?
The latest election surprise should engender such hope.Willingness of two prominent leaders of historically different political persuasions to join forces in the national interest is an encouraging sign that the traditional spirit of America remains alive and inspirational. They have found common values and principles on which to express agreement rather than responding to crowd calls for stark political division. Is it conceivable to elect a leader confident enough to assemble an administration that includes expertise from the other side?
