Kamala Harris: A Study in Unqualified Ambition and Communication Missteps
To use one of her favorite speechmaking words, it’s become increasingly “clear” that Kamala Harris ranks among the least qualified persons ever to seek the United States presidency. An early indication was her hasty judgment to declare imposition of price controls as a preferred means of moderating rampant inflation and “price gouging” without first consulting someone versed in economic history. The suggestion was immediately labeled as impractical by financial experts of both political persuasions.
Further signs of insufficient thought to federal policy are overly repetitive use of platitude phrases like “a new way forward” and “opportunity economy” without context or elaboration on their intended meaning. Inability to provide appropriate contextual background leaves listeners wondering what she is actually talking about. Perhaps this shortcoming is the result of overexposure to deposed mentor Joe Biden after nearly a full four-year term as his governing understudy.
Harris has succeeded in making the term “word salad” a staple in the 2024 political campaign lexicon. Regardless of the election outcome, this contribution to the English language will remain a distinguishing discussion feature of academic courses concerning leadership communication skills.
