Are Voters Being Misled by Poll-Driven Election Strategies?
Is the American public so inherently gullible or politically conditioned that it won’t recognize a polling-dictated change in party election strategy? An endangered and reclusive candidate significantly characterized as too extreme counters by mentioning several elements of the opposition’s well-publicized platform. With a practical necessity to toe the line of centrist moderation, these “teasers” obviously are intended to suggest openness to differing ideas without having to imply any commitment to them.
This approach might well be characterized as “bipartisan light.” Those inclined to accept such appearances at face value without introspection are a significant targeted segment of the population where both contending parties need to tread. We’ll have a chance to find out whether that territory is populated with participating ‘donkiphant’ and ‘elekey’ thinkers who take elections seriously, or absolutists addicted to traditional party labels.
