Intelligence officials are once again claiming that Russia is spreading “misinformation” through social media and using unwitting Americans to repeat the “propaganda” they see online.

“The American public should know that content that they read online — especially on social media — could be foreign propaganda, even if it appears to be coming from fellow Americans or originating in the United States,” said an unnamed official from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence speaking to reporters.

According to the official, Russia uses websites designed to look like they originate in the U.S. and publish AI-generated content.

The official claimed that the “false” information is then read and spread online via social media by Americans who believe it, and thus becomes part of public discourse.

The Associated Press reported that some of the “Russian misinformation” includes the mainstream belief that radical Democrat rhetoric surrounding former President Donald Trump could have inspired the assassination attempt.

The official did not explain how it has determined that so much information, which appears negative for Democrats, is actually false Russian propaganda. Nor did the AP explain how it could conclude that it was not, in fact, true that extreme Democratic rhetoric may have contributed to the attempt on Trump’s life.

The liberal media outlet also labeled the idea that the Biden administration was involved in the assassination attempt as Russian propaganda.

With these claims, left-wing media outlets, politicians, and officials appear to be recreating a series of media narratives that were projected in both the 2016 and 2020 elections, i.e. that anything harmful to the Democratic National Committee or Democratic politicians is false Russian propaganda

The tactic, which has now become standard election-year strategy for the Democratic Party, was most famously seen following the New York Post’s explosive reporting on Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop and the evidence of corruption that device contained.

Almost immediately after the story was published, 51 intelligence agents, including former CIA Director John Brennan, signed a letter falsely claiming that the New York Post’s reporting was Russian misinformation.

In fact, no element of the New York Post’s reporting has ever been debunked or later revealed as inaccurate, and the Department of Justice has corroborated the veracity of the laptop and its connections to President Biden’s son.

The intelligence community also conspired to claim that Trump colluded with Russia in order to steal victory in the 2016 election, claims that have now been largely debunked and are regarded as a fringe, left-wing conspiracy theory.
