Google, Facebook Suppress Information on Trump Assassination Attempt, Censor Iconic Photograph

Massive tech companies Google and Meta (formerly known as Facebook) have begun to subtly reduce the visibility of information regarding the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, which took place less than three weeks ago.

“Facebook and Instagram are now censoring Trump raising his fist after being shot There’s only 1 reason they’d do this: It’s the most powerful image of Trump in American history And it will define his 2024 campaign victory,” said conservative influencer Rogan O’Handley on X.

Facebook and Instagram, subsidiaries of Meta, have begun to label the famous image of President Trump raising his fist in the air in front of the American flag, taken moments after he was shot by an attempted assassin, as misinformation.

Any posts of the image were marked with warnings from Facebook flagging it as misinformation.

Facebook cited “independent fact-checkers” as the source for its false claim about the image’s veracity, while threatening any account posting the image with suspension if they continue to post things that the tech giant considers misinformation.

An account posted the image with minor A.I. modifications, which placed a smile on the face of one of the Secret Service agents.

After the “fact-checkers” determined that version of the image was fake, Facebook then used the information to censor the real versions of the image.

The Maine Wire was able to independently verify this when we received the same notice on our own Facebook post featuring the image.

This comes shortly after Facebook deleted thousands of posts from The Maine Wire, claiming they were part of a cybersecurity scam.

As Meta was moving to censor images from the Trump assassination attempt, Google was pushing forward with its own, more subtle attempt to make the American people forget the resilience of the Republican nominee.

Google search results will no longer show anything related to the Trump assassination attempt in the autofill dropdown when someone begins typing a search query into its engine.

Typing in “assassination attempt” will bring up results about Hitler, Ronald Reagan, and even the Slovakian Prime Minister, but will not provide any autofill suggestions relating to Trump.

In addition to deleting autofill results about Trump, Google now modifies search results for news about Donald Trump to show news about Vice President Kamala Harris first, changing “Donald Trump” in the news search to “News about Harris, Trump.”

Elon Musk expressed his outrage over the censorship via X and pointed out that, in addition to boosting Vice President Harris with its algorithm, its employees have given millions to Harris’s campaign.
