Voters Will Decide

by Phil Osifer | Jul 20, 2024

It’s disheartening to see the extent of Congressional support for the illogical notion that non-citizens should immediately become eligible to participate in the November federal election, regardless of their voting status as determined by the individual states. In the extreme case exemplified by recent open-border issues, a predictably close quadrennial contest could well be decided by several million newcomers from a potpourri of countries lacking prior experience in America, having limited familiarity with our primary language, and missing historical background with the governing Constitution and legal framework. Your vote therefore is subject to serious dilution, like a company issuing additional shares without acquiring demonstrably productive assets. Are we crazy? Will Congress codify for the future what 248 years of predecessors have strived to avoid through orderly means of preserving the power of the people it is elected to represent? Virtue lies in maintaining our rights of individual freedom in the context of established law, not subverting a distinctive culture by suddenly exercising transformative legislative authority. Integrity of the voting process should be the primary focus of the coming event, without which chaos could erupt to the delight of our nation’s adversaries. Phil Osifer
