This Election Consequences
Our election focus every four years is centered on the Presidency. This time, age considerations force serious consideration of the qualifications of both candidates’ running mates as potential leadership successors. Voter scrutiny also should go well beyond that level – to the composition of Congress and cast of characters each party likely would propose for key cabinet posts and agency heads.
This time, the domestic and global circumstances in which America must establish respect are broad and varied, requiring demonstrated head-of-state experience and skills in organization, motivation and accomplishment. I identify at least 40 troublesome domestic and foreign issues that demand prompt and informed attention from the next administration to establish a more promising course correction for its eventual successors.
After nearly two-and-a-half centuries of exemplary development as a respected democratic nation, we cannot afford hesitancy or dispute about staying on track. Allies and adversaries are fully aware of internal political differences that create opportunity for foreign exploitation and conflict. This year’s circumstances call for thoughtful ballot analysis and maximum voter turnout.
